"Transformation is the operative concept of what I think mime is all about. There's a great physicality to that transformation," Minor says. "I came into [the business] from a dancer's world, having studied modern, ballet, hip-hop and ballroom."
Miming became an appeal to Minor long after he began dabbling with the performing arts. "Up until I started this gig," Minor says, "I defined myself as a freelance fool. The whole process was, I don't know where my next paycheck is and where it's coming from. When I came to Charlotte from New York, my card read 'former choreographer, trainer and entertainer.'"
Since Omimeo Mime Theatre's start in Charlotte, a continuing partnership with The Children's Theater of Charlotte and an array of featured talent has launched the company into popularity.
One of Minor's more popular personalities, Captain Rainbow, is known as the defender of creativity and the energizer of imagination. He has between 25 and 50 personalities, ranging from Austin Powers to Liza Minnelli. Others include variations of the mime, clowns, surfer dudes and even Dr. Evil.
"The whole idea is to keep growing, keep expanding. I want to continue to be engaged to the community."
