Grand Nights For Singing

When: Sat., Aug. 17, 8 p.m. 2013

Theatre Charlotte is trying something different. Don’t worry, this doesn’t mean it’s stopping theater productions (next up is Gypsy, kicking off Sept. 6), but it does mean that a new medium is unraveling on the stage. Grand Nights for Singing, a cabaret series, is slated to start on Aug. 17. Under the musical direction of Ryan Deal, the premiere show will feature two acts. Act One will consist of post-2000 selections from musicals that include The Unauthorized Autobiography of Samantha Brown, Brooklyn the Musical, Ordinary Days, The Wild Party, Glory Days and more. Act Two will feature songs from Tick, Tick... Boom!, a lesser-known musical by American composer Jonathan Larson (think Rent). More performances, including an October show with selections from Jule Styne’s Funny Girl and a January show with tunes from Stephen Sondheim’s Follies, are also scheduled.
