SUSHI @ THE LAKE 19732 One Norman Road, Suite 300 (Exit 28), Cornelius, 704-987-8080. This West Coast styled Sushi bar offers traditional sushi and grilled items at very reasonable prices (for sushi, that is). $$$

ZAPATA'S CANTINA MEXICAN RESTAURANT 1990S NC Hwy 73, Cornelius, 704-987-8890. Extensive, quality Mexican dishes like grilled lamb, along with variety of burritos, enchiladas and more. Good lakeside view from patio or deck. $$

VINNIE'S SARDINE GRILL & RAW BAR 142 E. John Street, Matthews, 704-849-0202. Friendly, popular place for the after-work crowd. The menu ranges from soups, salads and wings to raw oysters and plentiful seafood dishes. $$

YEN'S 9010 Monroe Road, 704-845-9444. Fresh vegetables and individual preparation set this small Chinese restaurant apart from the rest. Crowd pleasers include spareribs in black bean sauce and lantern shrimp, which is sauteed with straw mushrooms and cilantro. $-$$
