G-Men Toast Irish Terrorists

comment
I was touched, almost to the point of gushing green tears, when I read of George Bush's St. Patrick's Day soundbite with the family of Irishman Robert McCartney, who on Jan. 30 was beaten and stabbed to death outside a Belfast pub. The perps are presumably 12 members of the Irish Republican Army. These aren't your granddaddy's Irish freedom fighters but scum who, like terrorists everywhere, prey mostly on the innocent.

As the Bush administration well knows, the money that might have paid for the knives that cut short McCartney's life — and that purchased bullets and bombs used in hundreds of IRA murders — comes from foolish romantics in the United States.

In fact, a leading prosecutor of terrorists in our own government has had a major role in funding Irish terrorism. Wow, you say, the guy must be pretty clever to keep such blood-drenched activities secret. Well, no. The government knows. I've told the feds.

I guess we have to conclude that the Bush regime is happy that one of its top terrorist hunters is himself a fundraiser for terrorists.

Let's trip over to a center of IRA fundraising. Not Dublin or Belfast or even Boston — but Tampa, Florida, where Paul Perez is the US Attorney and Robert O'Neill is Perez's top criminal prosecutor. O'Neill for years was the G-man in charge of trying to collar Sami Al-Arian, a Muslim academic accused, among other things, of raising money for Palestinian terrorists. Keep that in mind as you read on.

As St. Patrick's Day approached, I noted a March 9 guide to Irish bars in the St. Petersburg Times. The Times attested to the authenticity of the Four Green Fields pub in Tampa's Hyde Park by effusing that "there's a Sinn Fein recruitment poster near the kitchen." How nice.

The bar has also hosted numerous fundraisers for Sinn Fein, including appearances by Adams. Who owns Four Green Fields? Why none other than...
