Continuing to boldly go where no other Charlotte theater bookers have gone before, the folks behind the Back Alley Film Series have elected to bring Elite Squad: The Enemy Within to town. Brazil's official submission to compete for the Best Foreign Language Film Academy Award (alas, it failed to get nominated), this sequel to 2007's Elite Squad is a fine follow-up to that galvanizing picture. Whereas its predecessor focused on incorruptible police captain Nascimento (Wagner Moura) and his efforts to find a suitable crack team to battle the criminal element on the streets of Rio de Janeiro, this one finds the beleaguered lawman also having to contend with crooked cops, sleazy politicians and easily manipulated human-rights activists.
