Local farmers' markets offer a bounty of goods



• Milton and Harriet Baucom of Baucom's Best, a 100-percent grass-fed cattle ranch in Union and Anson counties, sell dry-aged (which is also halal) Black Angus beef at both the Charlotte Regional Farmers' Market and the Matthews Farmers Market every other Saturday (next time is April 26). Harriet suggests you place an order online and pick up at the market because they sell out quickly.

• Also represented at both markets (Saturdays 7:30 a.m. until noon) are Natalie Veres and Cassie Parson of the Grateful Growers Farm in Lincoln County, which sells pastured pork and poultry products. In addition to CRFM and MFM markets, they will also be at the new Davidson Farmers' Market beginning Saturdays May 3 from 8 a.m. until noon and the Charlotte Tailgate Market in South End (Park Avenue at Camden) Tuesday evenings from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. (this market is also open Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.) beginning April 29.

Underwood Family Farms of Lawndale, N.C., is at the CRFM market each week from 8 a.m. until noon: Every other week the meat is fresh (alternate weeks frozen). Christy Underwood says their business is seasonal so they have pork now, beef in June, lamb in July, and then another cycle begins. All animals are pastured and grown without antibiotics, steroids or growth hormones.

• Every three or four weeks (next time April 26, then May 24) Wendy and Walt Harrill come to market from the Imladris Farm in Fairview, N.C., with rabbit and their renowned apple butter.
