Explore Neighborhood History: Inventing Charlotte's Greenways

When: Sun., May 22, 3 p.m. 2016

Little Sugar Creek Greenway, completed in 2012 near CPCC and Kings Drive, is today one of Charlotte's jewels. It was first proposed way back in 1917 by noted landscape planner John Nolen of Boston. Historian Dr. Tom Hanchett explores how the creation of lushly landscaped Myers Park led to a proposal for a sweeping city plan … which stayed on the shelf for nearly a century. Landscape architect Beth Poovey of LandDesign, Charlotte, picks up the story to tell how the Greenway's design finally came to be. Free to attend, reservations required at https://explorehistory-greenways.eventbrite.com or 704.714.4453.
