Ahoy, there, all landlubbers and pirate enthusiasts! The Shipwreck! Pirates & Treasure exhibit is dropping anchor at the Discovery Place and there's exploring to be done. Start your adventure by learning about some of the most dramatic shipwrecks of all time and learn what it takes to be a shipwreck explorer. The exhibit features a scale model of the SS Republic, a Civil War era steamship that sank during a hurricane and was recovered in 2003. Beyond that, you will get the chance to experience hurricane-force winds, become an archaeologist, and try your hand at recovering deep sea artifacts with a robotic arm. And, of course, what's all this shipwreck and adventure talk without pirates? Explore pirate lore and artifacts while you sharpen your pirate skills and learn about North Carolina's most notorious pirate, Blackbeard. Mon.- Fri., 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sat., 10 a.m.--6 p.m.; Sun., 12 p.m.--5 p.m. Discovery Place, 301 N. Tryon St. 704-372-6261. www.discoveryplace.org.
