Led by Director and world-renowned soprano Rebecca Cook-Carter, CPCC Opera Theatre combines the talents of professionals, students and community members for this production of Dialogues of the Carmelites. The three-act opera is based on a play by Georges Bernanos set against the historical and terrifying events of the French Revolution. It tells the story of a young woman, Blanche de la Force, who wishes to become a nun in an attempt to escape the horrors of the outside world. She joins the sect of Carmelites nuns at Compiègne, but the Revolution arrives at the doorstep of the convent. Each nun must each face her own crisis of faith versus fear, and ultimately, the horror of the guillotine. Dialogues of the Carmelites is a part of the Sensoria Festival 2013. This performance will be held in Halton Theater.
