Día de la Virgen de Guadalupe

When: Mon., Dec. 11, 6-9 p.m. 2017

According to tradition, the Virgin Mary appeared to an indigenous man named Juan Diego and asked that he build a shrine to her on the hill where she appeared on Tepeyac Hill on December 9, 1531. Today, people across America still celebrate the Virgin of Guadalupe, whose dark skin and use of Spanish and the indigenous language Nahuatl is said to be a driving force in converting the indigenous to Christianity. We’ll leave the rest to the expert, Rosalia Torres-Weiner, whose Red Calaca Studio hosts this evening of prayer and mariachi music.
