Exhibit: Dean Barber Online Art Auction
Date: Saturday, May 3
On May 3, there will be an online art auction commemorating the late Myers Park high school teacher Dean Barber. Several of the teacher's former students have gotten together to grant a scholarship in his name. The architects of the fundraiser will be working with eBay to raise money; their goal is to reach $10,000 in funds. The scholarship will be given to a Myers Park High School student and will be based on artistic endeavors, academic achievement and community service.
According to the organizers, "[Barber's] creative influence on his students was significant. One very visible sign of his success was the fact that year in and year out, his students won awards and accolades in local, state and national art competitions. Of course, several of his students won scholarships to some of the finest art colleges and institutions in the country, including the Pratt Institute, Columbus College of Art and Design, and Savannah College of Art and Design, to name a few."
