Familiar faces grace new Charlotte band

There's a new band on the Charlotte scene called Push Cult. The band features two familiar faces, lead vocalist Patrick Jason (formerly of Star Zero and 11th Hour) and percussionist Bill Golden (formerly of Black Sunshine and Holy Moses), along with two new faces, guitarist Matt Moor of Florida and bassist Alan Yates of Texas. Although the band is practically brand new, they're starting off with a big push, booking dates as far away as Nashville, Tampa and Hoboken, NJ. You will be able to catch them in town as well on Friday, August 23, at 23 Studio/Pat's Tavern and Saturday, September 14, at Fat City.Charlotte-based Billarabi will also be taking to the road. Jason Hausman's project godmanradio is back in action with a new line-up. Currently the band features guitarist Chris Cooper (ex-Ishi and Chief Joy), bassist Matthew Everhart (Snake Oil Medicine Show, Sinclair) and drummer Chris Garges (Static, Day By The River). The band recorded at Jay Howard Production Audio last month. Hausman has been working with Charlotte filmmakers Ali Gharib and Dorne Pentes and Motion Graphics Artists Aaron Jonas and Adam Sakoonserksadee on a video for the group's single "Playground." The single will be included on an upcoming EP, which will be released later this year. On Thursday, August 8, at 7pm, the store is giving singer/songwriters a chance to perform at their "Unplugged Open Mic Night." For those who like to perform but don't have their own songs yet, you're invited to "Karaoke Night Out" at 7pm on Friday, August 23. If you've got any old musical equipment you'd like to sell or you're looking to upgrade, the store will host a Giant Musical Swap Meet at 10am Saturday, August 24. And finally, on Thursday, August 29, at 7pm, Mars will host a free drum circle. One Year Later, Karma, Gruv Union, Ultracyde and Sick Speed will kick the show off, performing from 11am-2pm.The Magic Band of Gold is proud to announce the release of their second CD, titled Rock n Soul House Party. If you didn't know, this is the band fronted by the Morning Team of Jim Shafer, The Eggman, and Liz Luke from Magic 96.1 FM. Rounding out the Magic Band of Gold are lead guitarist and vocalist Robert McClure (who's played worldwide with Jimmy Buffet and Tammy Wynette), drummer and Nashville session musician Tracy Scism, rhythm guitarist/vocalist David O'Donnell and saxophonist/vocalist James "J.B." Brown (whose resume includes stints with The Four Tops and Gladys Knight and the Pips). Sedative, Dave Petty, Sudden Fear, Defusion and Black Lagoon have also been in the studio working on projects as well.Around The Region:Dana Colley and Billy Conway, the two remaining members of Morphine, will be appearing this week at The Handlebar in Greenville, SC, with their new band, Twinemen. The band, named after a cartoon drawn by their late singer Mark Sandman, features singer Laurie Sargent and is the first original project since Morphine for Colley and Conway. In the year that followed Sandman's unexpected death, the two put together a nine-piece outfit called Orchestra Morphine, which celebrated the group's work. Sargent was a member of that group as well. Stu Kimball will join the trio on bass. The show is scheduled for Friday, August 9.
