The Deal: While the race for the checkered flag is at Lowe's Motor Speedway, 96.9 Kat Country hosted the Racing for St. Jude benefit at Coyote Joe's. Travis Tritt, Bucky Covington, Jake Owen, Keith Anderson, Mark Wills and Jennifer Hanson were on hand to sing for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
The Good: In addition to Tritt, it was a good line up of B-list country stars. The artists performed a guitar pool for which each one took turns performing their hit songs acoustically. Before the show the entire dance floor broke out into the Watermelon Crawl. However, the boot scoot boogying was interrupted when everyone was asked to sit as if it were a school assembly to allow the cheap standing seats in the back, for which I was in, the ability to see the stage. To raise funds for St. Jude's, they auctioned off items like lunch with Rick Flair and a ride around Lowe's Motor Speedway with Mario Andretti.
The Bad: Tritt should change his name to Sir Talks A lot. He opened the show with a solo performance, which was more like a lecture. He talked more than he sang, telling stories like he was Mother Goose. The lyrics of his songs tell a story ... sure wish I heard some of them. Coyote Joe's doesn't accept credit cards?!
The Verdict: I'm surprised with all the smoke and hairspray in the room I didn't spontaneously combust.
