Recovering addict singer-songwriters are practically a dime-bag a dozen, and far too many come across as self-flagellating narcissists or 12-Step fundamentalists. Austin, Texas’ Denny is the real deal, though, and his new release, If the Roses Don’t Kill Us, is a B3 organ-, pedal steel- and horns-powered tour de force of brink-of-death redemption songs.
