For the last 26 years, the Charlotte Folk Society has been holding concerts and jam sessions on the Central CPCC Campus. Now, the group has a place of its own -- The Great Aunt Stella Center.
Located at 926 Elizabeth Ave., the downtown landmark was originally designed as a church. The former sanctuary offers great acoustics and seating for 400.
The first concert in the new location was held on Aug. 8, featuring the Flowers Family, but there are plenty more scheduled for the future. The next scheduled performance is Steve Gillette and Cindy Mangsen on Sept. 12. Roy Book Binder is planned for October and locals Carolina Gator Gumbo are set for November.
There's a lot more to the society than monthly concerts. Clubs, meetings, gatherings of all kinds. You can see a full calendar and find more information at www.folksociety.org.
