This solo venture from Carl Broemel of My Morning Jacket came unexpectedly. The musician was generally surprised that he wanted to write material on the side when vacationing from his duties in the national music act. There was sleep lost, but at the cost of that physical strain the byproduct is a mindfulness that embodies his newer works — the latest being this year’s 4th of July, his third solo album in six years.
