Black Lips, Subsonics, Paint Fumes, Black Oatmeal

When: Fri., Nov. 1 2013

Black Lips’ reputation may have been built in large part on wild stage antics, replete with the loss of bodily fluids, but they reached relevance by becoming legitimate musicians when no one was looking. The band signed to Vice Records back in ’07 and has since released records featuring a blend of rockabilly and catchy, vaguely psychedelic punk. The live shows are calmer these days, but one of the opening acts, Charlotte’s own Paint Fumes, retains its primitive fury and features frontman Elijah Von Cramon, who has been known to occasionally puke on command. So if stomach bile is your thing, there’s still a chance you’ll walk away happy. The show will also feature the metal-tinged, thrashy punk of locals Black Oatmeal and the garage rock of Subsonics, who hail from Atlanta (like Black Lips) and are on Slovenly Recordings (like Paint Fumes).
