Planting Evidence: Police responded to a home in south Charlotte last week after a woman thought she had come across a long-lost armory in her backyard. The woman was digging around some plants in her yard when she struck something hard. After digging a little deeper, she found a firearm and dialed 911. Police quickly discovered that the object was a plastic toy gun.
Dog Eat Dog: A 32-year-old man came home to a couple of distraught dogs last week and thought it necessary to phone police in case something had gone awry while he was away. The man told officers that his apartment had been locked and that nothing was disturbed within the residence, but the dogs seemed to be suffering from minor injuries. He made the call perhaps before taking into account the likelihood of two dogs getting into a fight with each other when left alone.
The other shoe dropped: A 16-year-old girl attempted to buy a pair of shoes through Facebook last week and ended up paying $70 for a box. The teen met the suspect in an east Charlotte neighborhood and was handed an obviously empty shoebox. Before she could react, however, the teen says the suspect snatched the money from her hand and drove off while another passenger in the car fired shots into the air.
On Display: A student at Coulwood Middle School lit a bulletin board situated in front of a classroom on fire last week. At about 2:15 p.m., police reported that an unknown suspect lit fire to the papers displayed on the board and left the entire display burning. A fire investigator arrived later and photographed the damage.
Saucy surprise: A 54-year-old woman was surprised to see that her ex-boyfriend had stopped by while she was at work and left a not-so-romantic surprise for her. The woman told officers that the man was mad about their relationship ending so he came to her house and poured different condiments all over her wardrobe.
Turn Down For What: A 29-year-old woman in east Charlotte probably regretted asking her neighbor to turn down the music in her apartment building last week. The victim told officers that she began arguing with the woman about her music's volume. Instead of exchanging words, they began to exchange blows. The music-loving suspect reportedly struck the victim with her keys before picking up a knife and stabbing the woman in the arm.
Riding the Bench: A 26-year-old woman filed a police report after she received three harassing calls from an unknown number. During one of the calls a suspect challenged her to "sleep with your eyes open, because I'm going to take you out of the game."
Blotter items are chosen from the files of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
