Mt. Holly's David Childers' poetic roots (he was once a traveling poetry teacher to NC schools) show themselves in his electric stage shows, whether solo or with his band The Modern Don Juans. People who categorize his music as country or alt.country are missing the point -- DC's closer to a Red Clay Troubadour, a poet of the land filling his songs with topographical landmarks and reference points. However, the things he sings about -- love, loss, regret, redemption -- are decidedly universal.
