Last week's Creative Loafing Best of Charlotte awards inspired an interesting e-mail exchange between two local officials. First, on Thursday, serial e-mailer and county commissioner Bill James made sure everyone on the School Board, as well as others on his massive mailing list, knew that CL had given the entire board an award as Worst Member of Local Government. Soon afterward, School Board member George Dunlap responded to James' missive by pointing out that James had won a couple of awards, too, namely the Readers' Pick as Worst Member of Local Government and a Critics' Pick for the Insufferable Sanctimony Award. Dunlap, however, mistakenly claimed that both of James's awards were from our readers and that the School Board's award was from "just a group of critics." He made up for his mistake in our eyes, though, by mentioning that the board's award was given by "Tara Lievaious," proving that he's either the worst speller in local government or the worst comedian, although those awards will have to wait till next year's issue. No wonder we couldn't find anyone who deserved the Best Member of Local Government award.
