In the Swedish comedy crime film Sound of Noise, six crazy percussionists have set their city abuzz, capturing the attention of music critics and law enforcers alike. Screening as part of the Back Alley Film Series, the film may be a musical, but it's a far cry from the sing-along classic of Maria and the Von Trapps. A tone-deaf cop pursues the band of delinquent drummers as they lay siege to city buildings like a hospital and bank, while indiscriminately using furnishings, equipment and machines as their instruments. These unhinged musicians with criminal inclinations are orchestrating one bizarre magnum opus of musical havoc. You can't help but want to clap to that.
