AVA LUNA

Patience is a virtue for those listening to Ava Luna beaming from the boombox. This is art-pop, deconstructed via doo-wop and multi vocalists that swirl around dissonant instrumentation, that’s, oddly, danceable. There’s pleasant girl-group harmonizing that can dissolve into raggedy dance pop at any moment. It’s a closet full of sounds and vocals with twitchy changes, riding several genres and an intertwined play that hovers about the mics before dropping off into the next tune. The road beckons the Brooklyn combo as they tour in support of the new album, Electric Balloon. If you have the patience to absorb and understand their joyful noise, you’ll be musically rewarded. Otherwise, hey, the bar is always there. (Samir Shukla)
