And Then They Stood: Old Textile Mills of the Carolina Piedmont by Lawrence Lohr

When: Mon., June 4, 7 p.m. 2012

Once upon a time throughout the Carolina Piedmont there existed a string of textile mills employing close to half a million. “A mill a mile,” the Southern Railway advertized. Now most are either demolished, standing empty, or put to other uses. And Then They Stood presents a collection of B&W photographs of old mills together with essays on the roles of energy and labor in the history of the industry. And as always, events at Park Road Books are free and open to the public.
