A SILENT FILM Channeling the likes of countrymen Coldplay and Keane, A Silent Film makes catchy, anthemic piano music for the under-20 set. Somehow, though, between the big, major-key choruses, soaring guitars and uplifting-yet-vague lyrics like “You are my stepping stone,” they sound rather more like a Christian rock band than anything else. But that hasn’t slowed the band’s momentum as they’ve racked up downloads and spins on MTV’s The Hills, where their music seems a perfect soundtrack for the indeterminate emotional experience such shows inspire — they want you to feel something, though it doesn’t seem to matter much what.
