Beer doesn't get enough credit. It's as classy of a drink as wine — and there are connoisseurs who like to study the process of making beer and sample and savor it. And now, there's a place for the beer connoisseur to go ... Growlers PourHouse.

It opened last Wednesday in NoDa next to Crepe Cellar, which is its neighboring and sister venue, as it shares space and ownership. Growlers is essentially the beer cellar to the that of the crepes — like a wine vault for beer. They even have cheese plates with beer flights, along with organic truffled popcorn and a meaty menu. They have American craft style beer with 19 locally brewed beers on tap that alternate every three weeks.

They have hand poured Cask Ale served at cellar temperature from their refurbished 1935 beer engine. And these beer engines require the bartender to pump the tap like a jack on a car in order to put the oxygen into the cask ale. If you order one you should consider tipping extra because it's like a workout for them to pour it.

I didn't think I would like my beer room temperature, but the Duck Rabbit Ale #6 tasted kinda like chocolate. It was a beer version of hot (or luke warm rather) chocolate. A nice dessert beer.

Open from 5 p.m. - 2 a.m. seven days a week, kitchen open until midnight. And on Sunday, while everyone is at church, the Pour House will be opening early for football.
