Woman escapes would be teen rapist

A Gastonia teen was pulled into a bathroom, nearly raped and threatened to be cut. The alleged perpetrator, a 16 year old boy.

Police said Damitri Ojujuan Mitchell, 16, of Hudson Landings Drive, went into the women’s bathroom on Monday night at the school on South New Hope Road, according to the Gaston Gazette.

Police said it is there where Mitchell grabbed a 17-year-old student and assaulted her.

“Damitir grabbed her and put one hand over her mouth to keep her from screaming and tried to unbutton her blue jeans with the other hand,” said Gaston County Police student resource officer J.R. Hamrick in a warrant released in the case.

The warrant states that Damitri told the female not to scream or he would cut her. After screaming and kicking at Damitri, the woman was able to get away and report the incident to police.

Mitchell was arrested and charged with one felony count of second-degree sexual offense, one felony count of second-degree kidnapping and one count of communicating threats.

He was jailed at the Gaston County jail, with bail set at $250,000.

Earlier this year, Hope Circle [A children's advocacy group] Director, Laurie McClure, spoke to the Gaston Gazette about sex crimes involving teens.
Teenagers are being negatively influenced by activities they engage in daily.

“Exposure to violence in video games and Internet pornography has decreased the sensitivity level,” said McClure. “It makes it so that these teenagers with their hormones running amuck, they’re able to get past reservations that they would’ve had in the past about assaulting someone.”
