Rhiannon Fionn is an award-winning independent journalist who began at Creative Loafing in January 2009 as an intern. Prior to that, she worked in insurance and retail management. After years of investigative reporting on coal ash, she's become a sought-after speaker on the topic and is currently working on a book. She is a member of the Society of Environmental Journalists and a founding member of the Greater Charlotte Society of Professional Journalists. Her closest friends call her WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) and she calls herself "a scrappy country girl from Alablamastan." Both descriptions fit. In her spare time, she is an avid hiker and enjoys tending the chickens at a local co-op. Learn more at thewordtrade.com.
