Jerry Klein is something of an notorious Charlotte "institution" who returns to CL after a 13-year absence while living and working in Washington, D.C. Jerry is known for having worn many hats in this community: from owning what was regarded as the “best record store in town” to running the Charlotte Jazz Society; he worked as a freelance music critic for the Charlotte Observer and as a prolific concert presenter of hundreds of shows including such greats as Aretha Franklin, Miles Davis, and Joan Baez; he was the only “liberal” talk-show host on News/Talk 1110-AM WBT radio; and he worked as the Director of Programming for the nonprofit Great Aunt Stella Center; and, of course, he's the author of an estimated half-a-million words worth of columns, news features and cover stories for this paper from 1987 to 2001. After a life-threatening bout with major illness and personal loss, Jerry is back in town, and back in action.
