This weekend's events (Aug. 6-7)

Why is it that when you take a day off during the week, the days seem to drag on longer? After I took off from work Monday, it seemed like Friday was never going to get here. Jeez.

Aren't you glad the weekend is finally here? Here are some cool events you might want to check out.

• Sure, we're not from Ecuador, but let's help celebrate Ecuador's independence anyway at Latorres tonight.

• Get your picture taken at The Photo Shoot Party at Tempo.

• Concert alert: Music editor Jeff Hahne recommends Guttermouth, The New Threat, Southside Punx, The Not Likelys at The Milestone

• The new Fantasy Friday at Halo. Ladies 18 and up now have a new spot to invade on Friday nights. (Sorry fellas, you've still got to be 21 to get in.)

Panache w/The Mighty DJ DR (Voted Best Club/Party DJ in Charlotte by Creative Loafing) at The Sunset Club.

• Comedy show at The Flying Saucer featuring some local acts from 9 p.m.-11 p.m.

• Big Mammas House of Burlesque presents "Heroes Versus Villains" at Visulite Theatre

South End Summer Crawl will begin at IceHouse and end at Tyber Creek Tavern.

The Scorpio's Best Dance Crew Competition. This should be interesting!

• The Velvet is hosting "The Jersey Party" at Town Tavern. Free keg and $3 You-Call-Its.
