A CMPD officer has been charged with a first-degree sexual offense after a woman stepped forward after years of being told not to and reported the crime. Reginald Harris' wife Dia was charged with three counts each of felony child abuse, taking indecent liberties with a minor, crimes against nature and first-degree sex offense. Harris has been with CMPD 26 years.
The much-loved Penguin Drive-In is facing eviction. The landlord says the business doesn't appear in operation, which is just another odd fact about the Plaza-Midwood staple in a saga that has lasted years. "In 2010, the guys who helped turn the place around didn't have their lease renewed by the Ballentine family, which owned the building at the time, as well as the Penguin name and logo. After the family took control of the restaurant again, a plan to franchise the Penguin fell through. The Ballentine family no longer owns the building — they rent it. And in 2013, The Penguin filed for bankruptcy. That case was dismissed."
Apparently Russia buys into the "you hit us, we'll hit you" way of dealing with an enemy. Following U.S. and E.U. sanctions that targeted parts of Russia's economy, President Vladamir Putin signed an order that bans meat, fish, milk and fruit from America, Europe, Norway, Canada and Australia for one year.
Speaking of Russia, NSA watchdog Edward Snowden has been allowed to stay three more years in the country. Snowden fled the U.S. after leaking droves of documents that exposed much of the NSA's inner workings. Snowden has not been granted asylum in Russia, which would allow him to stay indefinitely.
Hawaii is preparing for its first major hurricane in 22 years. Iselle - a category 1, a "fairly potent" ranking - is expected to make landfall tonight. On its heels is Hurricane Julio, which is expected to make landfall Sunday.
