The latest conflict in Gaza hit home Sunday when hundreds gathered peacefully at Romare Bearden Park to rally support for Israel, and about 100 gathered at Freedom Park for a silent vigil honoring the thousands of Palestinians who have died in the last few weeks.

Israel has defended its military action as defense against potential infiltration by Hamas, the Sunni Islamic group that has governs the Gaza Strip. (Read up on the conflict in The Guardian.)
