The majority of Mecklenburg County Commissioners want to raise sales tax by a quarter of a penny to supplement the salaries of CMS and CPCC educators and to support the Arts & Science Council and public library. The increase would generate an estimated $34 million annually.

Speaking of education: Senate leader Phil Berger met with Moral Monday protesters to talk money and education. The protesters expected to be arrested.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor's defeat in the primary likely means immigration reform won't pass this year. Pundits speculate Cantor, who spent $5 million in the race, was defeated by tea partier and little-known candidate Dave Brat, who spent $150,000, because voters didn't think Cantor would sincerely stand against amnesty.

And finally, the answer to our biggest question, what kind of sea creature could devour a great white shark?
