On Thursday, the state Attorney General urged the Department of Motor Vehicles to issue driver's licenses to certain children of undocumented immigrants just days after the DMV revoked licenses it had issued to 13.

The AG argued that because individuals granted deferred action under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals - in other words, children of undocumented immigrants who are issued work permits - are lawfully present in the U.S. during their deferment, they should be given licenses.

"We are very happy that the North Carolina Attorney General's office has decided on a common sense solution for our state," Jess George, executive director for the Latin American Coalition, wrote in a statement. "This decision continues to move North Carolina in a positive direction and provides a shining example of how access and opportunity benefits all of our communities and the state as a whole."

The DMV hadn't released a statement at the time this blog was published.
