According to this story (see below) in The Charlotte Observer, The Children's World Museum in Mint Hill - which closed last week - has found a new spot in the Matthews Community Center for the time being.

The Children's World Museum is back in business – in Matthews.

Last week, co-founder Jerry Helms closed the year-old Museum in Mint Hill citing a lack of support from the town's elected officials.

But now the museum has a new, temporary home in Room 105 of the Matthews Community Center. And Helms says he hopes it stays in the town permanently.

Matthews officials say they are exploring short-term and long-term options with Helms, and are looking at the Clark House as a possibility for a permanent location.

The Clark House, at 232 N. Trade St., was recently turned over to the Matthews Historical Foundation for renovation and preservation.

Historical Foundation President Paula Lester says the Children's Museum would be a perfect fit for the 150-year-old house.

“With the global economy, it's important that our children be acquainted with the rest of the world. I think the Clark House will be a really nice spot for this Museum and I think it will be a real plus for Matthews and its citizens. I'm thrilled this is coming our way,” Lester said.

The Children's World Museum is a hands-on museum with over 10,000 artifacts from 25 countries. Current displays include Masks From Around the World, Toys and Games From Around the World, and Africa. After exploring the displays, children can choose to make a rain stick, a kite, or origami.

The Museum is in the Matthews Community Center, 100 McDowell St. The exhibits officially open Wednesday and will be open Tuesday – Saturday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.. Admission: three years and under, free; Students and seniors, $1; Adults, $5.
