If you're looking for an excuse to do some day drinking, clear your schedule this Saturday, March 15. That day marks the start of all beer snobs' favorite occasion - Charlotte Craft Beer Week. The kickoff of this most-cultured of holidays will be celebrated in style with the advent of the South End Craft Beer Crawl.

The Crawl will feature six local breweries and beer spots, each offering different signature brews. Free stuff will include South End beer swag, like koozies, pint glasses and bottle openers. But the greatest perk lies in the complimentary trolley rides around South End. You can get to each of the Crawl's participating locations - or any other spot in the neighborhood - without worrying about whether you could pass a breathalyzer.

The South End Craft Beer Crawl starts off at noon at Triple C Brewing Co., changing location every two hours. The featured beer on tap there will be the 3C IPA dry hopped with whole leaf cascade. I don't know much about beer, but "whole leaf cascade" sure sounds fancy.

The next stop, Good Bottle at 2 p.m., features a keg of Hopslam and a cask of Olde Hickory Black Death with coffee and Apollo hops. Intimidating as the title is, any beer with coffee's got my vote. At 4 p.m. the Crawl moves on to South End's newest addition, Sycamore Brewing, for a taste of what's to come when the brewery officially opens in the summer.

Next, at 6 p.m., Unknown Brewery taps into its signature Naughty by Nature (which sounds deliciously provocative). Then at 8 p.m., join at World of Beer as the tap flows from its brew, Birdsong's Puppies on Penguins - say what? This oddly-named Belgian-style ale is aged in oak barrels with cherries. Yum.

The final stop of the Crawl is, of course, old faithful Common Market. The featured brew there will be the rare Harviestoun Old Dubh 1991, aged for six months in whiskey casks.
