Item of the Week: Scarves from Summerbird

This spring, the trend is all about pops of color that brighten up any wardrobe like the colors of gerbera daisies. Rainbow hues aren't just represented in spring flowers; they are found in the designer scarves on display at the upscale consignment boutique, Summerbird, formerly known as Monarch. (Owner Cindy Siesel changed the name from Monarch to avoid confusion with another business in Charlotte. Siesel assures customers that Summerbird offers the same quality service and merchandise as it did before.)

New and vintage patterned scarves are more than just accessories — they're practically essentials this season. Christian Dior, Ed Hardy, Picasso, and Faberge scarves are tucked around a mannequin to create the illusion of a dress or skirt.

"Customers are inspired by the print because it's an art; there is no right or wrong when wearing scarves," Siesel says. Different colors and patterns, like the ones on the mannequin, can be combined to create an original look.

"Scarves are not sized," says Siesel. "They fit everyone, and are as classic as Jackie O."

Scarves are priced from $12-$160. Summerbird, 1222 East Blvd. 980-613-8395. www.summerbirdboutique.com.
