A Silent Film

Channeling the likes of countrymen Coldplay and Keane, A Silent Film makes catchy, anthemic piano music for the under-20 set. Somehow, though, between the big, major-key choruses, soaring guitars and uplifting-yet-vague lyrics like "You are my stepping stone," they sound rather more like a Christian rock band than anything else. But that hasn't slowed the band's momentum as they've racked up downloads and spins on MTV's The Hills, where their music seems a perfect soundtrack for the indeterminate emotional experience such shows inspire - they want you to feel something, though it doesn't seem to matter much what. With Carousel, American Authors, Matrimony. $7.50. Feb. 1, 8 p.m. The Fillmore, 1000 N.C. Music Factory Blvd. 704-916-8970.
