Local gun shop makes national news with huge sales

On Thursday, just six days after 26 people were brutally gunned down in a Connecticut elementary school, The Hyatt Gun Shop in Charlotte "racked up more than $1 million in sales," according to a Charlotte Business Journal story that cites Bloomberg news. It was the store's best single-day performance since opening in 1959 and an example of how some gun enthusiasts, fearful of increased regulation, have reacted to the shooting.

Then today, National Rifle Association Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre proposed his organization's resolution to a wave of gun violence that's plagued the U.S. this year. According to Gawker, LaPierre said every school should have an armed police officer by year-end.

A protester carrying a sign with the message: "NRA killing our kids" interrupted LaPierre's press conference, and was eventually escorted from the room as cameras clicked away. Watch the video here.

The NRA and the doomsday preppers who worship there are mentally ill. It is not the organization it was when I was a member many years ago.

They fight to insure that every crazy person has easy access to every weapon ever dreamed up by our military and then use the carnage to push other people to buy guns to protect themselves from all the heavily armed crazy people.

Do you watch the "preppers" shows that are suddenly so popular on TV? If it doesn't send chills down your spine then you, too, are part of the problem.

DLP, are you really that uninformed? The NRA believes this whole discussion is totally worthless if we are not going to include Mental Healthcare as well. We want to know why the whack job who murdered the firemen was not in prison for life. Your whole second paragraph in beyond nonsense. If you really believe that then there are serious questions about your ability to make a rational and informed decision about anything.

The Preppers shows? They are like all the other reality shows: Contrived, scripted, cast and manipulated to present a certain view, promote an agenda or just shock and draw ratings. These people are no more representative of your average gun owner than the "Real Atlanta House Wives" is of the average housewife ANYWHERE.

What is even more disturbing is at least 5 other people are as ill-informed as you are.

You can opt out of the 2nd Amendment if you wish but you have no Right to prevent other law abiding individuals from actively participating to the fullest of their abilities.

Perhaps your Freedom of Speech should be restricted to 50 words or less? Or you can Freely Assemble but only as long as the group is 5 people or less.

Like most other NRA members you see only the black and white all or nothing world that you are being bombarded with by the NRA. You believe that ANY gun regulation is just the first step to banning all guns.

As long as we are unable to restrict who can buy and own guns, then criminals and crazy people will continue to be heavily armed. It makes no sense to pass a law that says a criminal can't buy a gun if there is no system in place to see that YOU aren't giving or selling guns to criminals and crazy people. The regulatory system that you find so threatening is the only way to insure that YOU can own guns and crazy people cannot. Laws are meaningless if they are unenforceable. If guns are allowed to just disappear into society with no followup, they will always find their way into criminal hands.

I recognize that the preppers are not typical gun owners. I also recognize that they are a growing segment and that THEY are among the crazy people who shouldn't own guns. Check out the American Preppers Network. They shouldn't be being idolized in TV shows, they should be getting psychiatric exams. I have had to deal with enough paranoid schizophrenics to know that one of the most dangerous people in our society is someone who falsely thinks he is in imminent danger.
