Creative Loafing is like a Transformers toy: We're "more than meets the eye."
While we're limited in the number of conversations we can start in our print edition, our little piece of the World Wide Web has been booming lately. Here's what we've been up to online:
• Straight from the pages of our sister paper The Nashville Scene comes Vodka Yonic, a new column for women who appreciate women telling it like it is. From Abby White, editor of Vodka Yonic: "It's sharp, informed, alternately humorous and poignant, and continually challenges the very idea of what a women's column is."
• It was only a matter of time before we'd find some people gutsy enough to revitalize our sex and love blog Bangtown. Check it out, now including new posts by a certified sexologist (yes, that's a real job).
• For you comic book geeks who miss the Comic Proportions column, helmed by former editor Carlton Hargro, we now bring you Comic Afterthoughts. Recent topics explored by writer Andy Smith include the CliffsNotes version of Days of Future Past (ohmygawd did you see the bonus scene at the end of The Wolverine?), an exploration of the Man of Steel sequel's unlikely influence and more.
• A monthly video series called This is Charlotte, courtesy of a new partnership with ABlack of ABlackTV.com, offers a documentary-style glimpse into the cultural happenings in the city and reuniting viewers with past Charlotte innovators and celebrating hometown accomplishments. Recent interviews include Mayor Pro Tem Patrick Cannon, No Limit Larry from Power 98's morning radio show and former Hornets player Muggsy Bogues.
• Wayfaring Tech Nomad, a travel and tech blog, offers readers a glimpse into the adventures of the queen of all Charlotte geeks, Desiree Kane. You just won't be able to keep up with her (she recently went to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota), but her updates on techy stuff (a product that protects my iPhone from getting wet? Yes, please) are informative and helpful.
• Lastly, are you addicted to Instagram hashtagging like we are? Follow us at @creativeloafingcharlotte. (If you're not a follower or fan on Twitter, Facebook or Pinterest, now's a good time to join the conversations there, too: Search @cl_charlotte and Creative Loafing Charlotte respectively.
